Unless you’ve been hiding in a cave for the last year, you’ve probably heard a lot about how damaging that shimmery, sparkly, shiny thing we love called glitter is to our environment, especially for marine life in our precious seas and oceans.

Did you know that most glitter currently on the market is made from plastic? Glitter particles are classified as microplastics, which are small plastic particles less than 5 millimetres in diameter. They never break down, and when disposed of down the drain, they travel through our waterways and can end up in the stomachs of fish and birds that mistake them as food, often killing them. Glitter may also end up on our plates and you can guess where next!

According to a recent scientific study, microplastics were found in the stomachs of 3 out of 4 mesopelagic fish (those that serve as a food source for many larger marine animals and in turn, humans) in the Northwest Atlantic.

But it's not all doom and gloom...

An eco-friendly alternative in the revolutionary Bio-glitter now exists, a new product that entered the glitter market recently. It has ecological, health and cosmetic benefits and we’re here to explain just what it’s all about and give you three great reasons why you should be buying Bio-glitter instead of plastic glitter this festival season.

Cosmetic Bio-glitter is manufactured from a special biodegradable film made from trees (mainly eucalyptus) and it’s sourced from responsibly managed plantations. Only Bio-glitter originates from these raw materials and it’s totally free from GM (genetically modified) materials as well as being vegan-friendly and animal cruelty-free.

Biodegradation occurs in the right conditions – when the glitter is in soil, compost or wastewater environments where microorganisms are present. Bio-glitter can be completely composted in your garden and in marine and wastewater.

Cosmetic Bio-glitter contains almost zero metal, which means that it doesn't negatively affect your health, unlike cosmetic polyester glitter, which can contain high levels of heavy metals.

Use on your face, body, hair or nails and apply with our Organic Aloe Vera Gel for an all-natural skin application.

Much silkier and more comfortable to wear on the skin, Bio-glitter is physically 30-40% softer than polyester glitter. As each glitter particle is cut to a hexagonal shape, there are no sharp corners as you may get with square cut glitters.

The great news is that you can buy Bio-glitter from us here at Pic ‘n’ Mix Festival Kit. We have a growing range of super sparkly biodegradable glitters that come in different sizes and colours. Sticking to the festival theme, all of our glitters are named after famous songs, but can you guess the artists?

We believe it’s only a matter of time before festivals ban glitter and so whether you’re looking to use it on your face, boobs, bum, or beard, Bio-glitter is the only way to go.

With 5g in each bag, our glitter is extremely good value AND the bags and resealable labels on the packaging are also 100% biodegradable.

A totally guilt-free sparkly glitter solution that’s great for the environment, your body and your piggy bank!
